Community Involvement

At Nielsen Law, we encourage our team to take an active involvement in their community.

It is a source of great satisfaction that our people are important members of local community groups, involved in:

Serving on the boards or committees of local sporting bodies;
Providing coaching and umpiring for sports teams; and
Serving on school Boards of Trustees.

We deeply value the opportunity to give back to our community.

Waikato Community Hospice Trust

We are proud to have been the lawyers for the Waikato Community Hospice Trust since 2004, providing complimentary legal services and sponsorship throughout.  We have been involved in Hospice’s growth and development, including:

  • Acting in relation to the acquisition and establishment of the current Gallagher Family Hospice on Cobham Drive in Hamilton;
  • Establishing the Waikato Community Hospice Foundation;
  • Advising in relation to fundraising initiatives, including the Fight for Life 2014; and
  • Representing Hospice in disputed estate matters.

In addition, David Nielsen has served as a Board member for the past 13 years.

NZ Breakers

We truly have been the legal advisors to the NZ Breakers since before day one.

We were involved when the idea of a team in the Australian National Basketball League was only a dream of three Hamilton businessmen – Dallas Fisher, Michael Redman and Keith Ward – assisting in bringing the dream to reality.  Since then, we have been there with the Club providing legal services, as well as “riding the pine” as avid fans, from the first tipoff on 1 October 2003, through the tough times to the highs of three consecutive championships and beyond.

In addition to providing legal advice, we have sponsored development players at the Club, including, most recently, Josh Bloxham.

The Club’s values of One Team + Courage + Integrity = Champions are the same values we endeavour to bring to our work with all our clients.  It is a pleasure to be able to be more than just fans and to apply our skills to supporting an organisation we admire.

Basketball Development Trust

David Nielsen has been a trustee of the Basketball Development Trust since 2004.

The Trust was established in 2004 to provide young people with education regarding health and fitness through basketball.  Since its inception, we have been involved in providing pro bono legal services to the Trust to assist it in meeting its charitable objectives.

Hamilton Cricket Association

David Nielsen and Shaun Hoskin are both past Chairmen.

We have been providing legal advice and sponsorship to Hamilton Cricket since 2007.  We are proud to be involved in nurturing the game at the grassroots level.
